hi!
I am using oracle 9i on windows 2000, I am trying to create a tablespace on another server which is on windows 2000 in the same network, but it gives the error as OSD -04002 UNABLE TO OPEN FILE
O/S ERROR (OS 5) ACCES IS DENIED
I am loged in as administrator, I also shared the drive on the server that I am trying to create the tablespace.
Then I also mapped the drive but it showed the same message.
Can somebody please tell what permissions need to be given.

This is useless, this is not you that creates the tablespace files, this is Oracle instance owner.

This Oracle instance owner is a local user (generally system) and has no access to network drive.
Btw, it is a bad idea to create tablespace with remote files.

it is fine that remote creation of tablespace is not supported, but I still would like to know how to do this.
The owner for oracle instance is sys

Does the link that posted Brian not answer this question?

You have an OS user named sys?
