Dear All,

we have a strange situation.while building the indexes (some of them are massive bitmap indexes on a huge table (>170GB). Now when the index building was in progress, the database was shutdown two times for no reason. We have an index log file which showed no error message and only indicating that it can't build indexes when database is shutting down. Checking the alert.log showed that, database was in an immediate shutdown mode but no error message. Also no trace files were created about this shutdown. Database version is 9.2.0.6 and running under Solaris.

When sysdba shuts down the dbase explicitly, does it write any where besides the alert.log file. If database kernel was responsible for shutting it down, what could be the possible reason. We don't see any block corruption errors or any nasty stuffs like that.

Any help/suggestions would be acceptable and appreciated.

Thanks.
