I am trying to install Oracle 8i on a Pentium 4 processor and Windows 2000.
I have tried the workaround using -nojit but it didn't work.
I tried copying the CD to the HD but i couldn't do that succesfully because some files were not copied.
I do not have a metalink password to download the patch.

Please, can someone send me the patch or give me a solution?

I have been working on this problem for a week now and i need it urgently.

Thank you

Hi,
P4 uses new symcjit.dll but oracle uses sun's old JRE
versions, so u should download new JRE from Sun' site
& find out above dll file & replace in your install CD/ local drive then try to run,the installer will
come up & do it correctly.
Hope it will solve y'r issue.

Workaround
~~~~~~~~~~
Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the post-install
configuration tools will also be affected. Running these tools with "-nojit"
specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify "-nojit" for
some of the products.
The following workaround works for the Windows operating system:
a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard disk ,say, e:temp.
b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications (Assuming CD
drive is f:)
* Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:stageproducts.jar)
* Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
relative path. (i.e.,
JRE_LOCATION=f:stageComponentsoracleswdjre1.1.71DataFilesExpanded)
* Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
relative path. (i.e.,
OUI_LOCATION=f:stageComponentsoracleswdoui1.6.0.9.01DataFilesExpanded
* Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the first argument.
(i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
^^^^^^
* Other entries should remain the same
c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard drive (i.e.
e:tempinstallwin32setup.exe). This will use the modified
oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since the absolute
locations are specified.
Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database during the
install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will not be launched
during installation.
The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and there is no way
to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration Assistant if it
hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been successful, and
you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8 Configuration
Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for the most recent
JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually. NOTE: the OUI
itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one with the most
recent date, which should be the jre process being used for Net8CA, not the
one for OUI itself.
After killing the configuration tools and continuing through the installation
to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the configuration tools
to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the Start Menu.
Once installation is complete, each of the following files in the ORACLE_HOME
needs to be modified:
assistantsdbcadbassist.cl
assistantsdbmadbmig.cl
assistantsifaifa.cl
binelogin.cl
binowm.cl
ldapoidamdinoidadmin.cl
networktoolsnetasst.cl
networktoolsnetca.cl
owminstallinstelogin.cl
owminstallinstowm.cl
Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown below:
Command=("C:Program FilesOraclejre1.1.7BINJREW" -nojit -classpath ....
this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from the Start Menu.
Patches
~~~~~~~
Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal with this
problem, the workaround listed above must be used.

Found this on description on
http://www.cba.uh.edu/~mitchl/A%20Guide%20to%20Install%20Oracle.htm

Pre-installation for Pentium4 user

For all Windows ME installed on Pentium4 machine, you will see the error message shown below when trying to install using the original instruction that comes with the CD. "JREW has caused an invalid page fault in module JAVAI.DLL ...". The reason is that Windows ME does not support the version of Java that Oracle products use. Therefore you need to download the updated version of Java onto your machine before installing any Oracle products.

Please go to http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/jre/download-windows.html and download and install a Java Runtime Environment that is compatible with the P4 processor. You can either download the 1.2.2_007 or the newest version, 1.3.

Next, we also need to change the installation file on the CD. We can only do that by copying all the installation files from the CD onto your hard drive and make some corrections to the file. So copy all the files from the CD into a folder on your hard drive.

Now, search the Oracle installation folder for a file called symcjit.dll. Rename this file so that the installation doesn't use it. Instead, the installation will use the one that is in the JRE folder (the new updated Java file that we just downloaded and installed).

Now, you can start the installation process by running the installation from the hard drive.

salam all of u

yours poroblem solution is just to rename a file.
The simplest workaround
is just to copy the whole CD to the hard drive,
rename SYMCJIT.DLL to SYMCJIT.OLD and start installer from
the hard drive. You do not even need to install
the JREW 1.1.8...

hi answer to your problem

Now, install away!

first of all delete all oracle entries from regedit .

copy the oracle cd on ur pc.

Change the name of the symcjit.dll file.

Example: Change from symcjit.dll to symcjit_disc.dll

The path to this file is:
... stagecomponentsoracle.swd.jre1.1.7.301Data FilesExpandedjrewin32bin

After changing the file run the installer.

good luck!!!!
