I see there are a lot of posting on this error. But in going over them, I did not resolve my problem. I have an XP machine. I installed 9iAS then, 9iDS. At first, I gave db a name, which is not in tnsnames.ora anymore, I deleted the name with net config. then I uninstalled DS and reinstalled without a DB name. Now, when I create a form I get the Java applet and get the error 12560 protocol... then, I get a connect screen, which I enter my information, without a db name, I get the 12560 error. When I go to preferences, the port is 8888, but the tnsnames.ora file is for port 1521. so I changed it. still get the 12560 error and no Japplet. I have been dealing with this problem for three days and have not come up with a solution. Can anyone help a poor student. I am really into Oracle and cannot wait to get going. I need this to see the ins and outs to pass the next certification test. I thank you in advance.
