Hi everyone,

I have installed the software for a customer migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 x64

They receive an .MMB file, make some changes to it and then save it. At this point the file size shrinks from around 8 MB to 4 MB.
Initially we had an error locating the library file when the MMB was opening but this was resolved by adding the path to the library on the shortcut start in field.

I understand the version of forums builder isn't compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 so as a test I have installed 12c (12.2.1) from https://oracle-base.com/articles/12c/standalone-forms-builder-12c-installation-on-windows-1221 and we get exactly the same result.
Before making changes to the MMB file the size is around 8MB, no matter how many changes are made or added the saved file size is always around 4MB. There are no errors and they are able to open the MMB file afterwards but are concerned with the file being half the size.

Can any of you offer any advice?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Well I know fmb's can vary wildly in size due to the fact that form builder stores additional information in the file when you compile it, could be something similar is happening here.

Hi,

This is opening an MMB file extension that's been given to them, then making no changes and saving as the same file extension but with a new name the file size is different to the original. any idea why?

Sure; allocation unit size (a hard disk property) is different on those two computers. It appears that one is twice as large as another one. There are different ways to find that value; one of them is to run the CHKDSK (check disk) utility on command prompt. Here's an example:
C:\>chkdsk
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is OSDisk.

<snip>

4096 bytes in each allocation unit. --> this is what you're looking for
121968383 total allocation units on disk.
84112604 allocation units available on disk.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and information!
So basically it's nothing to worry about at all and the file will not be missing anything.

I appreciate your time both and have a nice evening. Please mark this one as solved!

I wouldn't worry, as long as everything works as expected. I'd also check whether CHKDSK really shows figures I talked about. Just then I'd say that there's probably nothing to worry about.
