Which EDITION of Windows7 is running this system?

>C:\windows\system32>sqlplus
>Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production

Please explain how & why you seem to have 32-bit Windows, but 64-bit Oracle

I have 64 bit operating system. When I open command prompt as a administrator it shows up with that prompt. I was trying some troubleshooting by invoking sqlplus as administrator at the OS level.

Oracle and windows are both 64 bits

alert_SID.log file should contain additional clues as to what is wrong with the DB.

post back here excerpt (at a minimum it should start with the most recent reboot)
It should contain 1 or more ORA-XXXXX errors

ORA-00600/ORA-07445/ORA-03113 = Oracle bug => search on Metalink/MOS and/or call Oracle support
Have a look at alert.log and trace files.
You can also read this article: Troubleshooting Internal Errors.

Location depends on your configuration, post

I interpret above to indicate hardware disk corruption.
Are there any additional clues in Windows System log file?
