We were forced to upgrade the OAS prior to the database for exactly this reason. Oracle would not provide any help/fixes on this subject.
Also, be careful if you use 4.0 migration utility. We found it was usually easier just to recreate the applications and cartridges in 4.0 after the installation was done. We only had 2 or 3 of each though, if you have a lot the migration tool may be a good start, as long as you do plenty of verification and testing afterwords.
